The start-up and the evolution of Litera Meat during its first year of operations has shown a very positive balance, achieving significant turnover figures and consolidating impressive international commercial agreements. During the first semester of 2020, the company has had returns of more than 223 million euros and expects this figure to go over 500 million euros at the end of the year, with sales volumes for more than 250,000 tonnes of pork meat.
After 12 months of operations, the company already has over 1,200 employees, processes an average of 60,000 pigs per week and exports to more than 50 countries in five continents.

The 60% of LM’s Suppliers Are Aragonese Herders and the 20% Are Located in Catalonia
The company has always opted for local products. Around 60% of the livestock breeders working with Litera Meat are from the autonomous community of Aragón and about the 20% are located in Catalonia, which translates into a very positive impact on the region, fostering economic and social growth and opting for top-quality regional raw materials. Litera Meat believes in the importance of generating shared value and during the last months it has worked on building a supply chain based on long-lasting, professional and trusted relations with suppliers. Currently, the company has consolidated a broad portfolio of suppliers, renewing its commitment with the 80% of them.
Opting for Qualification, Employment for Young Adults and Women
The company has created over 1,200 new direct jobs in the administrative division of La Litera, aside from the indirect jobs implied in the start-up of this project. Litera Meat has a diverse and multicultural work team of more than 40 nationalities, with a high presence of female and young talent. The 32% of its personnel are women and around 50% are under 45 years old.
On the other hand, the enterprise is firmly opting for the future and the development of its employees’ professional career. Talent management is a guarantee of growth and Litera Meat’s training centre allows for the professionalisation and specialisation of its own employees, aside from widening the educational offer of the province and fostering the incorporation of the trainees into the labour market.
Preserving the Environment
Favouring a responsible and sustainable energetic management has been one of the main objectives of the company, which has progressively increased green energy consumption. The 100% of the energy supply of Litera Meat comes from renewable sources.
In line with this, it is important to highlight that Litera Meat has a specific Environmental Issues area focused on developing a long-term sustainable strategy and promoting a seamless integration of the society, the economy and the natural environment.
Animal Welfare, a High-Priority Issue
Litera Meat has shown commitment and sensitivity to animal welfare from the beginning. The evidence of this is the obtention of the renowned Welfare Quality® seal with a very favourable punctuation. The feedback was also positive, highlighting the innovation and cutting-edge technology of the installations, which also incorporate various measures in favour of the protection and comfort of animals right from reception. An example of this is the unloading mechanism equipped with hydraulic platforms implemented by the company.
In addition, Litera Meat has received the approval of the Agriculture, Livestock and Environment Department to teach three modules on animal welfare in its training centre. Litera Meat understands that the care of animals is also a corporate social responsibility and daily works to strengthen its commitment to animal welfare.
